Trying to get to our campground!
There weren't a lot of RV parks in this area. We stayed at a KOA nestled at the foot of the Catskills. However, getting there proved to be a new adventure for us. We didn't want to take the toll road, so we took a state road which would have been okay except halfway there we came upon this part of the road that is blocked and crews are working up ahead. Richard walked up to find out what was going on as there had been no signage about a road closure. They told him there were two large trees that had fallen several hours earlier and they would be at least another two hours getting the road open. We didn't want to wait that long so we both unhooked the toads, got turned around and were on our way a different route with Karen and I driving our cars. One of the neighbors came out to help us and offered his driveway if we needed it. We were going through Saugerties, however that route proved to be exciting as well. After meandering several 45 degree turns we dropped down a hill to see a metal two lane bridge that is marked 12'00". Richard put on the brakes as our height is over 12'. We were able to quickly get right just before the bridge and got parked to determine what we do now! The height of the bridge definitely looked like we would be okay going on it, but Karen and I went in the car to check it out up ahead and found that once you got across the bridge and up the hill again we were in downtown Saugerties with a VERY narrow Main Street - that is what was only 12'. So off we were across the bridge and thru the narrow downtown area, several cars were nice and pulled aside for us to make all the turns. We were glad to see the campground sign today! I still wasn't feeling very good so we found an Urgent Care that was open on the holiday and they prescribed some medication for the next six days. I wanted to get on top of whatever I had before heading across the border into Canada.
