Quebec City

The city of Quebec was founded in 1608 and is also known as the cradle of French civilization in North America. It is the capital of the province of Quebec and seat of the National Assembly. Quebec City celebrated its 400th Anniversary in 2008. The population is 651,000 of which 95% are French speaking. The official language is French, but English is widely spoken in all service industries and tourist and shopping areas. The fortifications of Quebec surrounding the old town are close to 4.6 km ( a little under 3 miles) in length. A path allows visitors to stroll the walls and immerse themselves in the history of the defense system of the only remaining fortified city north of Mexico. The first picture shows us entering the fortified city through the walled gate.
Chateau Frontenac is a world-famous hotel.
