When we left Palmer this morning these two girls were trying to hitch a ride to Tok. When we got to the Matanuska Glacier we drove down to the viewing area and it was raining really hard so decided to wait a little while to see if it would clear. When we did come back out to the main road and started on our way.....here were the two girls again trying to hitch a ride. Pat and I looked at each other at the same time said "Let's give them a ride"! We got stopped and I got out and waved to them that we would give them a ride.....here they came running in their flip-flops and blue plastic tarp waving in the wind. We told them we could take them as far as Glenallen because we were going south at that junction to Valdez. The backpacks they were carrying were really heavy.....I can't imagine ever doing anything like that! We ended up having a very pleasant visit with them and they had lunch with us when we stopped. If they hadn't been with us we probably wouldn't have stopped so early for lunch....but the Mom in me wanted to feed them before they were out on the road again. They are originally from Island Park, ID and were now living in Salt Lake City. Carla had worked one summer in Skagway and they were on a two week vacation to meet up with a friend in Skagway. We really hated to put them back out on the road and cautioned them to really be careful who they caught a ride with. They said they were very selective who they would get in with and gave us a bag of goodies that they had packed for people who did give them rides. We plan on being in Skagway next week so who knows we may run into them again...we did tell them to give us a call.

May 3, 2011 finds us back on the road for six months, headed for the Northeast and the Canadian Maritimes. As of September 2008 we now are full timers in our motorhome. We plan to see as much of the North American continent as we can.
When we are not traveling in the summer, we will make our home in Star Valley, WY where we have an RV lot.
Here we are able to play golf, fly model airplanes, quilting, line dancing, dance parties, play cards, swim and four wheel in the mountains. Star Valley is located just 50 miles south of Jackson Hole, WY and we are surrounded by mountains. The temperatures here are very comfortable for the summer. Winter is a different story and that is why we won't be there. Way to cold for us although Barb does like the winter snow so we will probably find some now and then.
