L'Anse aux Meadows in on the northeastern tip of the Northern Peninsula of Newfoundland, at the end of The Viking Route 436. It is supposedly the first European presence in North America...1,000 AD with Leif Eiriksson's landing. For the next decade or two their were successive expeditions to this region they called Vinland. In a short time the base at L'Anse aux Meadows was abandoned. In the 1960's archaeological excavations uncovered the remains of several dwellings.
