The Noon Gun
Every day of the year except for Christmas Day, noon in Halifax is announced by the firing of the Noon Gun, a tradition that has continued unbroken since 1856 and possibly before that. Today members of the 3rd Brigade, Royal Artillery carry out this duty as it was performed in 1869. As you got up on the hill you either went to the left or right side depending if you wanted it explained in English or French.
