The Discovery boat made a stop at the riverfront home of the late Susan Butcher (Iditarod Dog Musher) and her husband Dave Monson. Susan won the Iditarod Dog Sled Race four times and Dave has won the 1,000-mile Yukon Quest Race. Susan lost her battle with leukemia last summer at the age of 51. Her husband Dave and their two daughters are giving the demonstrations now. Both girls are under the tutelage of their dad and becoming accomplished dog mushers. Susan led the only climbing party to conquer the highest point on the North American continent by dog team when she mushed to the top of 20,320-foot Mt. McKinley. Sled dogs are some of the world's best cared for athletes. They receieve the best food and medical attention, and they get to do what they love most......run!
