Richard & Karen had lunch with us at Mary's McKinley View Lodge. This is located on Mary Carey's original homestead. She homesteaded on this property 7 years before the Parks Highway was built through here. Mary is famous for Alaskan books and fighting to get a highway completed so that she could share her magnificent view with travelers. She felt that the best viewing of Denali was from the south rather than the north where visitors are allowed to enter Denali National Park. This was the spectacular view of Mt. McKinley from the dining room. She passed away in 2004 and her daughter Jean Richardson and her family still operate the lodge. Mary wrote a best seller "Alaska - Not for a Woman", this is Jean signing a book Barb bought and telling us some of the stories about her mother.
