This was the beautiful view that awaited us when we came over the crest of the hill coming into Homer! Even the garbage cans were painted!
Some of the beautiful scenery in Homer. There is a small plane flying in the first pictures with the glacier behind it.
The first 2 pictures are looking down at Homer. You can see the Homer Spit, which is a long narrow bar of gravel, that extends 4.5 miles from the Homer shore. The Spit has quite a history and it continues to be a centery of activity for the town. A landmark on the Spit is the Seafarer's Memorial, dedicated to those whol have lost their lives at sea. The next to last picture is the Historic Salty Dawg, the lighthouse tower was once a water tower. It is a classic example of local architecture. Several buildings were spliced together to create this landmark. Fishing Lagoon on the Homer Spit.
Richard spotted these two eagles as they flew by the front of the Jeep and landed just to the left of us.
This was the camp hosts rig at one of the campgrounds on the Homer Spit. Pat & I decided we would pass on this job with these unique facilities!
This moose was on the outskirts of Homer. At one point he was really frustrated with a bush and was just pawing at it with his front legs.
Beehive RV Park......this caught our eye while driving by.
Russian Orothodox Church....note the distinctive Russian Orthodox crosses.
The little village of Ninilchik is on the mouth of the Ninilchik River and dead ends at the beach. The Russian Orthodox sits up on the hill overlooking the little village.
The fireweed is so pretty up here....I'm sure going to miss seeing it!
This is literally "putting the laundry out to dry". It was so damp here in Ninilchik I don't know how the clothes will ever dry.
Spotted this young bald eagle on an old barn in Ninilchik. They don't get their white head and tail until they mature around 5 years.
We had planned on a side trip to Homer today....but after being gone for a long time yesterday we decided to take a day's break in between side trips. It rained off and on today and we didn't get out away from the coach until about 2:30. Went to check on plane trips to do some bear watching but they were pretty expensive and said we might see 6-8 bears....at $50.00 per bear that was too pricey for us. Went out to see a large wood carving business, checked on getting some moose antlers and went to the visitor center. All in all it was a pretty quiet day....we played cards again tonight. Wildlife sightings today: None. If you want to see where we are currenty at (8/6/07) go to: http://map.datastormusers.com/user2.cfm?user=2430
We took a side trip today back towards Cooper's Landing on the Skilak Road Loop (to hopefully see moose and bear). We had dinner at Gwin's Lodge, then headed west back towards Soldotna taking the Swanson River Road. Dan & Jenny and Larry & Marcheta all went razor clam digging....that didn't interest us at all....Pat's knee wouldn't have taken that, we didn't have any equipment and we really don't even like clams so we didn't see much purpose in our going claiming. Wildlife sightings today: 2 Moose, 3 Common Loons, 1 Eagle and a large herd of Dall Sheep. If you want to see where we are currently at (8/6/07) go to: http://map.datastormusers.com/user2.cfm?user=2430
Karen spotted this moose along the roadside the first part of our trip today and we didn't see another one until later in the day on the Swanson River Road. We sure aren't seeing much wildlife.
Some of the scenery today on the Skilak Lake Loop. The Kenai River originates at Kenai Lake and flows west about 85 miles going into the east end Skilak Lake and then out the west end on its path to Cook Inlet.
We saw three different common loons today on different little lakes.
Not sure what kind of berries these are....but they didn't taste good. There were a lot of these bushes along the way today.
The Kenai River is often referred to as the world's greatest sportfishing river, its turquoise waters have produced the world record king salmon (just over 95 lbs). Below are some types of river activity besides fishing. First picture is ferry taking fishermen across the river.
We stopped and watched some fishing on The Kenai River...it really is crazy to see them fishing like this....it is called combat fishing up here!
The end of the road at Swanson River.
Saw these cars in the parking lot of the Kenai Princess Wilderness Lodge....and then saw two more on the road.....must have been having some kind of driving tour.
Our RV park is in Soldotna right on the Kenai River. Boy if you are a fisher this is the place to be.....I think there is every kind of business that has anything to do with fishing here. After dry camping for 8 days....the laundry had piled up and since we don't have a sewer hook-up at this camp site...it was off to the laundry this morning. Pat had a quote that he needed to work on today and I was really getting behind on paperwork....so that is what we did today. Made a quick run to the post office, went down and watched them fishing for salmon and then had everyone over to play cards. Wildlife sightings today: None If you want to see where we are currently at (8/6/07) go to: http://map.datastormerusers.com/user2.cfm?user=2430
Had another short travel day.....we are getting use to these 100 mile days.....certainly helps with the fuel costs! We got set up and went to the post office to pick up our mail. We decided to all have Happy Hour tonight instead of fixing supper. It wasn't too long sitting outside and we all got cold and moved into our coach and visited.Didn't take any pictures today. Wildlife sightings today: None

We were going to a Christian Church in Seward this morning but when we got there, there was only one car in the parking lot (that had been there since we arrived in Seward) and two men standing at the open doors. We were hesitant to go there so drove around to see what other service we might be able to catch. We ended up going to a Nazarene church. We were given name tags but that was the extent of meeting anyone. Everyone else was back at camp waiting for us so that we could all go together to Exit Glacier for the afternoon. Wildlife sightings today: Just the sea otters in front of the motor home. If you want to see where we are currently at (8/6/07) to to: http://map.datastormusers.com/user2.cfm?user=2430

May 3, 2011 finds us back on the road for six months, headed for the Northeast and the Canadian Maritimes. As of September 2008 we now are full timers in our motorhome. We plan to see as much of the North American continent as we can.
When we are not traveling in the summer, we will make our home in Star Valley, WY where we have an RV lot.
Here we are able to play golf, fly model airplanes, quilting, line dancing, dance parties, play cards, swim and four wheel in the mountains. Star Valley is located just 50 miles south of Jackson Hole, WY and we are surrounded by mountains. The temperatures here are very comfortable for the summer. Winter is a different story and that is why we won't be there. Way to cold for us although Barb does like the winter snow so we will probably find some now and then.
