5/21/09 - Left Branson headed to Eureka Springs, AR

We now have one more state to add to our map on the motorhome.

5/21/09 - 5/24/09 - Eureka Springs, AR

We spent 3 enjoyable days in Eureka Springs.
Downtown Eureka Springs...I don't think there is a level street in town....the streets are extremely narrow and very steep climbs.
Eureka Springs has the largest collection of Victorian architecture in the central United States.
Eureka Springs has been called the wedding capital of the South.
Some of pretty roads we saw driving around Eureka Springs.

Magnetic Springs
Thorncrown Chapel.....is nestled in a woodland setting. The Chapel rises forty-eight feet into the Ozark sky. This magnificent wooden structure contains 425 windows and over 6,000 square feet of glass. The chapel's simple design and majestic beauty combine to make it what critics have called "one of the finest religious spaces of modern times." It is fourth on AIA's top buildings of the 20th century.

Beaver Lake

This was a beautiful blue lake....made us wish we could have boated on it.
We thought better of taking this exit road.....also notice the satellite dish in the water. They have had so much rain back here.....everything is overflowing.

Blue Spring Heritage Center

Blue Spring is the largest spring in Northwest Arkansas, pumping 38 million gallons of pure water into the White River daily. In March of 1839, Blue Spring was a stopover on the Trail of Tears for the Cherokee people on their march from Echoto, Georgia to Oklahoma. In the mid 1840's Blue Spring Mill was built, however it burned during the Civil War and was replaced in 1903 by a new mill which was a combination of a saw, grist and flour mill. It was removed in 1943, but the turbin still remains. Divers are currently exploring the cave to see where is comes from....the fissure is only 3 feet wide and an estimated 500 feet deep. To date a cave system and a small room have been discovered.
This whole area was one of the prettiest settings we have ever seen.
I can never pass up pictures of pansies.....they just look up at you with their faces!
More Flowers!
There are vines growing on so many of the trees.
This was the entrance to The Passion Play grounds. We did not go to the play this time...we had gone when we were here before. It is the largest of its kind in North America, the performance takes place on a 550-foot stage in a 4,100-seat amphitheater. Would recommend it to anyone coming here.
The seven-story high Christ of the Ozards overlooks Eureka Springs. It is believed to be the world's second largest statue of Jesus.

The following picture shows a part of the actual Berlin Wall.

Quigley's Castle

This had to be The Ozark's strangest dwelling. It has appeared on HGTV. Everything is covered in rocks....to bring nature indoors, four feet of earth was left bare between the edges of the living space and the walls. Mrs. Quigley planted flowering, tropical plants that grow up to the second-story ceiling. The plants are over fifty-five years old now. Quigley's grandchildren still live in the home and welcome people to the home with personal tours. You can go to www.quigleyscastle.com to read more about it.
Everything is covered with rocks.

This upstairs wall was covered with butterflys.

Even the outhouse was covered with rocks!

Scott...you should have had this sign at the dairy.
Mrs. Quigley's husband had a huge bottle collection....this is one of the things they did with them....make Bottle Trees!
War Eagle Mill is Arkansas' only water-powered grist mill. It was like a step back in time to visit this Mill.
